Are Professional Athletes Paid too Much?

leave a comment »

Don’t get me wrong, I love my sports, but I think that pro athletes in America are paid too much money.  Society is one to blame, because in the end it is always us who shell out the money.  But here’s a few numbers that make me want to vomit:

According to’s Fortunate 50 article, Tiger Woods has made a total of $90,508, 163 in 2010.  The cheating scandal knocked him back a few endorsements, but he still collected 70,000,000 in that category.  Think about that, 70 Million dollars in one year for endorsing products.  If you do the math, Tiger made $20,508,163 from his salary/winnings.

Now let’s take a look at a few more numbers.  Obama makes an annual salary of $400,000, which doesn’t include his perks.  But that still puts him at about $500,000 a year.  (howstuffworks, 2007)  Family and General Practice Doctor’s make roughly $140,000 a year, and I don’t even want to know what many of our bravest citizens that are serving in Iraq make.

Come on America, wake up and realize who is important.  Because this is ridiculous.
